Classes at Jack James High School
At Jack James High School, learning goes beyond textbooks. Our classes are designed to be engaging, practical, and relevant, helping students build both academic knowledge and real-world skills.
Students have access to a wide range of academic courses, including English, Social Studies, Science, and Math, taught in smaller class settings where teachers can provide individualized support and build meaningful relationships with students.
Our Math and Science classes focus on developing strong foundational skills while helping students connect their learning to real-life situations, future careers, and post-secondary pathways. Teachers work closely with students to ensure concepts are understood and to provide support when needed.
Jack James is also known for its strong hands-on learning opportunities through Career and Technology Studies (CTS), trades, arts, and specialized programming. Students can explore many different career pathways while learning from teachers and industry professionals with extensive real-world experience.
Our programs include unique opportunities such as:
- Culinary Arts — Learn from a Red Seal Chef while developing cooking, baking, food safety, and commercial kitchen skills.
- Construction / Trades — Learn from a Red Seal Carpenter and Cabinet Maker, with opportunities to build foundational skills in construction, drywalling, finishing work, and introductory electrical and plumbing.
- Auto Body — Learn from a Red Seal Auto Body Technician while gaining experience in repair, refinishing, and car detailing services open to the public.
- Early Learning / Preschool Education — Our on-site preschool program welcomes community children, giving Jack James students authentic hands-on experience learning how to become preschool educators. Students in this program have the opportunity to work toward earning their Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Level 1 Certificate while still in high school.
- Fashion and Esthetics — Students explore fashion, make-up, skincare, nails, and hair styling, with opportunities to learn from guest speakers and industry instructors.
- Horticulture / Landscaping — Students learn about plants, gardening, and landscape design through hands-on projects such as floral design, terrariums, greenhouse learning, and landscaping.
- Animation, Design, and Multimedia — Students gain hands-on experience in graphic design, beginner animation, digital art, Photoshop, and multimedia editing. This program helps students build creative and technical skills used in industries such as animation, marketing, photography, and digital media.
- Art — Students are encouraged to explore and express themselves creatively through a variety of artistic mediums, including drawing, painting, mixed media, and ceramics. Students also have the opportunity to create hands-on clay projects using our on-site kiln.
Learning from industry experts gives students authentic insight into careers, workplace expectations, and practical skills that transfer beyond high school.
Because of our smaller school environment, students often find it easier to ask questions, stay engaged, and build strong connections with teachers. At Jack James, students are encouraged to actively participate in class, take ownership of their learning, and explore pathways that align with their strengths, interests, and future goals.
