Physical Education 10
Physical Education 10 is a mandatory course for high school graduation in Alberta and focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for an active, healthy lifestyle. Students engage in a wide range of physical activities including team sports, individual pursuits, and fitness training. The course emphasizes personal wellness, goal setting, safety, and active living. Students are encouraged to explore physical activity as a lifelong pursuit, while also learning about the importance of teamwork, cooperation, and respect.
Physical Education 20
Physical Education 20 builds on the foundation developed in PE 10 and is designed for students who wish to continue developing their physical literacy and personal fitness. The course deepens the focus on personal responsibility, leadership, and goal setting in a variety of physical environments. Students explore more complex movement skills and strategies, engage in higher-level fitness and sport experiences, and reflect on their own health and wellness. Emphasis is placed on independent decision-making and sustaining motivation for lifelong physical activity.
Physical Education 30
Physical Education 30 is an advanced-level course for students who have completed PE 20 and want to further challenge themselves in their personal fitness journey. The course continues to develop leadership, teamwork, and lifelong health and wellness practices. Students demonstrate an increased capacity for self-directed activity, personal goal achievement, and reflection. The curriculum encourages active community engagement, positive risk-taking, and applying physical activity concepts to everyday life.
Recreation Leadership
Recreation Leadership is a complementary course designed for students interested in taking on leadership roles within physical activity settings. This course develops skills in planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities and events. Recreation Leadership often involves opportunities to support school-based initiatives, volunteer programs, and community recreation, while helping students build confidence and practical experience in leadership roles.
