Environmental Initiatives at Our School
Green Team Club – Building a Greener Jack James
The Green Team Club at Jack James High School is a student-led group dedicated to making our school community more environmentally responsible and sustainable. Meeting regularly throughout the year, the Green Team organizes and leads a variety of green initiatives that engage students and staff in fun, meaningful ways.

Some of their recent efforts include participating in Anything But Cars (ABC) Week in partnership with Youth En Route, where students were encouraged to walk, bike, carpool, or take transit instead of driving. The team promoted the initiative through posters, prize raffles, and a school-wide classroom contest that collected data on sustainable commuting choices.
They’ve also launched creative eco-friendly campaigns like the GOOS (Good On One Side) bins now found in the staff room and library, helping to reduce paper waste by encouraging reuse.
As part of our commitment to becoming an Eco-School, the team hosted an Earth Day Campus Cleanup that removed nearly 150 pounds of waste from the school grounds, engaging many classes in the process.
Other memorable events include the Halloween Costume Recycling Initiative, where gently used costumes were swapped instead of thrown away, and the Holiday Ornament Upcycle Project, turning old decorations into new treasures while keeping them out of landfills.
The Green Team is passionate about building a more sustainable future and welcomes new members and ideas. If you have a green idea that could help make our school more eco-friendly and fun, talk to a Green Team member, your teacher, or come see Ms. Lampic or Ms. Hoven—your voice and creativity are always welcome!
